A Life With More Timeless Elements

A Life With More Timeless Elements

Author: Juli√°n Bluvstein

“In this work, I propose for the future the coexistence between the “new” and the “old.” The new being at the forefront of the latest trends and technological discoveries, but also being something temporary, and the old being already obsolete or outdated, but maintaining a timeless state in which it persists. This relates to topics such as planned obsolescence and the significant increase in discoveries, which cause the elements that we will consider as the newest and the best in the future to take a few years to become part of the old.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily have to be something negative. I believe that in this future, the old would have much greater relevance than it currently does, causing many people to want to wear old, out-of-fashion clothing that is of higher quality than new clothing being sold, deciding to decorate their homes with a real painting instead of a digital photo frame, using old appliances that may not be the prettiest or newest but have a much longer lifespan, or preferring to have a real window that shows the street rather than a screen that simulates a window, where they can see the scenery they desire.

In conclusion, the future I envision is one where many concepts that exist today will be amplified, but at the same time, the movements that go against these concepts, seeking a greater connection with nature and a life with more timeless elements, will also be amplified to a greater extent.” Juli√°n Bluvstein

In an short exercise linked to the proposal of the 2084 Imagined Futures Program, we invited our ICP 1 students to travel forwards in time the year 2084, and propose imaginations/transformations, understanding that design and design disciplines can be tools to improve contemporary and everyday life based on sustainable commitment.
It is an exercise where we proposed to dream and propose utopias.
