Planetary Futures Project for the Care of Life and the “Detectives of the Future” Exhibition

The Planetary Futures Project for the Care of Life invited children, youth, and adults from the Scout movement in Antioquia to imagine how we can care for life in the future. This initiative is part of the twentieth call for proposals from the University Bank of Extension Programs and Projects (BUPPE) of the University of Antioquia. The exhibition will be open until September 2026 at the Museum of Life of the Faculty of Medicine, located in the Naviera building in downtown Medellín.

“Detectives of the Future” Exhibition and activities at the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia

Representing the program 2084 Imagined Futures from the South, Martín Gromez visited Medellín and strengthened alliances including the PACCSA Plan of the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia. As part of an academic, cultural, and community agenda, Argentine architect and artist Martín Gromez visited the city of Medellín in March 2026. The visit was organized under the invitation of the Plan de Adaptación al Cambio Climático desde Salud Ambiental —PACCSA— (Climate Change Adaptation Plan from Environmental Health) of the Universidad de Antioquia (UdeA). Centered on the inauguration of the exhibition “Detectives of the Future” at the Museum of Life, the visit helped establish connections for future international collaborations, disseminate the principles of the 2084 program, and delve into topics such as the convergence of knowledge around art, social inclusion, architecture, and public health.

Review of our 2025 and looking forward to 2026

We share with you this year’s progress, in which we continue expanding spaces for meeting, creating new collaborations, and exploring ways to collectively imagine and discuss possible futures from our region. In challenging times globally, these initiatives reaffirm the importance of collective imagination and discussion of fair and inclusive futures. We continue to believe in the enormous potential of activating the imagination of futures! And, as we say every year at this time: Our program’s commitment continues to grow! Below, is a SUMMARY of the ACTIVITIES of 2025, carried out thanks to the commitment, enthusiasm, initiative, and participation of many of you.

TEDx talk on the Future by Margarita Gutman

Buenos Aires, November 9 — TEDxRíodelaPlata marked its 15th anniversary with a new edition of its renowned festival of ideas, presented under the central theme “TIME.” The event, held at the Buenos Aires Convention Center (CEC) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., welcomed more than 1,700 attendees and performed a dynamic forum for reflecting on the passage of hours, days, and eras through personal stories, scientific discoveries, and collective works. As part of the opening segment, “The Science of Time,” architect Margarita Gutman — Director of the Observatory on Latin America OLA at The New School — delivered a thought‑provoking presentation. In her ten‑minute talk, she guided the audience through three of her major projects: Buenos Aires 1910: Memory of the Future, Buenos Aires 2050, and 2084: Imagined Futures from the South.

Zonas de Compensação 11 · 2084 Program Presentation · Event Summary + Video

On October 2nd, the 2084 Imagined Futures from the South program participated in the Zonas de Compensação International Art and Technology Festival 11: Vetores de Imersão e atalhos para mundos imaginários (Compensation Zones International Art and Technology Festival 11: Vectors of Immersion and Shortcuts to Imaginary Worlds) organized by GIIP – Grupo Internacional e Interinstitucional de Pesquisa entre ARTE, CIÊNCIA E TECNOLOGIA, Instituto de Artes – SP, UNESP – Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho”. The online presentation began with Amanda Jorri (Brazilian Research Assistant at OLA) who outlined the history, foundations, and objectives of this program organized by the Latin American Observatory (OLA) of The New School.
