Video of the conversation Gamers del Sur: Other Futures

In this discussion, a group of academics spoke with the authors of three video games produced in the course “Design and production of video games” of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires.

This video is spoken in Spanish

Based on playful motivation, video games have proven to be a great tool for scientific dissemination and are a powerful means of transmitting content and cultural guidelines. They can be designed with the main purpose of teaching and training the user, helping to increase the ease of learning through the discovery, assimilation and retention of information, among other qualities. Video games are perhaps the main source of future imaginations and for this reason, video game designers are future makers.

With the action of each video game on screen, commentators and authors addressed issues related to the proposed imaginaries, such as foundations, objectives, types of proposed actions, and motivations, among others.

We invite you to watch the video of the event led by¬†Juan Manuel Gonz√°lez (2084, OLA, The New School), with an introduction by Margarita Gutman (OLA/The New School, EEUU; FADU, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Alejandro Iparraguirre (FADU, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina), while the academics Elvira ¬®Bibi¬® Fern√°ndez (Facultad de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Dise√Īo, Universidad Nacional de C√≥rdoba, Argentina), Eliana Martinez Herrera (Escuela de Salud P√ļblica, Universidad de Antioquia, Medell√≠n, Colombia) and Enrique Rodr√≠guez Caporali (Centro de Estudios Afrodiasp√≥ricos, Universidad Icesi, Cali, Colombia) spoke with some of the authors of the videogames Metamorf√≥sis (Kevin Bellen, Mel Mir, Mariano Montiveros, Josefina Selvanovich), Save the Future (Nicol√°s Lucione, Nazarena Lilen Herrera, Maria Jose Monta√Īo, Silvio Vasquez, Sol Romero Ferrando) and Uma y Yaku (Lorena Abrodos, Erica Gonz√°lez, Dario Mart√≠n, Roy Rojas, Paula L√≥pez).

2084 Imagined Futures summons imaginations and amplifies the voices of those not usually heard.

The future is a field of dispute that must contain the aspirations of all and not only of the sectors that today have mores ¨capacity to aspire¨(Appadurai, 2004). For the future to contain us all, it is necessary to activate the imagination of all and encourage us to occupy the daily life of tomorrow.
